Integrated suite combining innovative best practices analytics with agile development team tools marks official commercial launch

Waltham, MA, July 27, 2010 – Telerik, a leading vendor of development tools and user interface components for .NET, today announced the immediate commercial availability of TeamPulse. Resulting from collaborative efforts between Telerik and consulting firm, Imaginet Resources Corp., TeamPulse is an integrated suite of agile scheduling, planning, and tracking tools designed to enrich team dynamics, bridging the boundaries between different stakeholders by providing greater insight into project context.

Developed on the popular Silverlight 4 platform, TeamPulse introduces a number of new technology advancements such as its industry-first Best Practices Analyzer and the new Persona Management view. It also incorporates an array of innovative team-oriented tools addressing critical agile project management needs, including iteration planning and scheduling, team collaboration, requirements management, and real-time project tracking. The intuitive user interface (UI) maintains a natural action flow for development teams, optimizing the decision-making process, minimizing redundancy and reducing waste.

“Telerik and TeamPulse are at the forefront of technology innovation – our Best Practices Analyzer raises the bar for application quality, while the Persona Management view takes the art of human-centered application design and development to the next level,” said Joel Semeniuk, Executive VP, Telerik Team Productivity Tools Division. “TeamPulse unleashes the inherent power of agile software development teams by elevating the overall development process. It is a strong demonstration of our role as a change agent for the software development industry.”

The Best Practices Analyzer is a pioneering technology not found in other team productivity solutions on the market. Leveraging a unique framework developed by Telerik, the analytical tool automatically evaluates then reports on which project elements are divergent from best practices standards. The suite includes a set of pre-determined best practices, however, the Best Practices Analyzer is built to allow the addition of new best practices based on a team’s particular organizational or project requirements.

TeamPulse’s Persona Management view provides teams with a rich editor for identifying application requirements, such as needed features and functionality, as well as defining end-user characteristics. The innovative human-centric tool gives developers a clearer picture of how end users will interact with and use their application, thereby allowing them to better capture, understand, and leverage vital end-user requirements and expectations.

In addition to its Best Practices Analyzer and Persona Management view, the commercial launch of TeamPulse includes a range of other new features and enhanced functionality:

  • Requirements management – facilitates the planning process by providing tools addressing critical elements like story management, estimation, and prioritization
  • Planning and scheduling – allows project requirements to be divided and decomposed into separate tasks which can then be scheduled into iterations
  • Project tracking and analytics – provides a transparent, real-time view of project health, including up-to-date information on individual and team progress, via integrated analytics and streamlined dashboards
  • Traceability – enables accurate tracking of business value during the course of the development cycle

Telerik Automated Testing Tools Bring in Enhanced Silverlight UI Testing Capabilities

Thu, 07/15/2010 - 10:56

Latest release delivers Out-of-Browser support, introduces control virtualization handling

Waltham, MA, July 14, 2010 – Telerik, a leading vendor of development tools and user interface components for .NET, today unveiled its Q2 2010 product release, featuring a number of essential new additions to its WebUI Test Studio in the field of Silverlight test automation. The updated Telerik automated testing tools also introduce new functionality aimed at enhancing testers’ productivity such as image verification, quick task addition, and more.

“Our determined focus on innovation and commitment to customers translates into timely delivery of leading-edge updates to our testing solutions,” said Christopher Eyhorn, Executive Vice President, Telerik Automated Testing Division. “Not only was WebUI Test Studio the first to offer support for Silverlight UI test automation, but with this release we continue to strengthen our position as the leading solution on the market for Silverlight testing.”

Following the official premier of WebUI Test Studio in April, the axis of the second major release for this year is Silverlight test automation. The new version of WebUI Test Studio adds full support for Out-of-Browser testing of Silverlight applications. The Out-of-Browser experience empowers users to launch their web applications directly from their desktop/start menu no matter if their computer is connected to the web.

Furthermore, WebUI Test Studio 2010.2 introduces a solution to Silverlight virtualized control testing. The advanced recording surface now extends its capabilities to allow users to detect Silverlight ChildWindows and Pop-ups, and connect to them. In addition, users can highlight elements within these Pop-ups, and build verifications against them.

Beyond the compelling optimizations in the Silverlight UI testing field, WebUI Test Studio 2010.2 adds a number of features fostering user testing experience and efficiency. The new Image Verification is a powerful test recording feature which enables customers to build image verifications against specific elements in their HTML or Silverlight applications. WebUI Test Studio offers precise “pixel-by-pixel” testing which allows users to refine the image verification they want to build.

In addition to the more precise verification options, WebUI Test Studio introduces export of the test’s Visual Storyboard in HTML format, which facilitates documenting of business requirements; continue recording from a specific step; add manual steps to your test, and more.

 Product pricing and licensing

  • WebUI Test Studio QA Edition – $2,499 USD; includes one machine license and one year of updates and priority support.
  • WebUI Test Studio Developer Edition – $1,499 USD; includes one machine license one year of updates and priority support.
  • WebUI Test Studio Bundle – $2,999 USD; includes one machine license for both WebUI Test Studio QA Edition and WebUI Test Studio Developer Edition, one year of updates and priority support.

Telerik Unveils New Developer Productivity Tool, Additional Portfolio Enhancements

Wed, 07/14/2010 - 14:10
Latest release brings Mocking tool to market, introduces Silverlight RichTextBox, and delivers upgrades across full Telerik toolbox

WALTHAM, MA, JULY 14, 2010 – Telerik, a leading vendor of development tools and user interface components for .NET, today unveiled details of its Q2 2010 milestone release. Fresh from its recent “Best of TechEd Award” win, the company launched its latest developer productivity product, and new tools and controls. The company also announced the immediate availability of an array of upgrades and enhancements for the full Telerik product line.

Among the new offerings and updates being announced are JustMock, a new Visual Studio productivity tool allowing quick and easy mocking of objects during testing, Silverlight Assembly Minifier, a tool for assembly size optimization, RichTextBox for Silverlight, Round Trip Mapping for the Visual Designer in Telerik’s OpenAccess ORM and new Silverlight test automation enhancements to the company’s innovative and easy-to-use WebUI Test Studio.

“We understand that to remain competitive in a crowded market, developers must have access to the latest innovations and technologies allowing them to deliver added value to their customers,” said Svetozar Georgiev, CEO, Telerik. “Our team is firmly dedicated to supporting our developer community by incorporating the newest, best technology advancements into Telerik’s product line-up and releasing regular upgrades in a timely fashion.”

The officially introduced RadRichTextBox for Silverlight allows developers to bring true Microsoft Word-like content editing experience to end-users. The new control offers rich text editing and formatting capabilities, import and export of HTML, DOCX, and XAML, as well as out-of-browser support and printing.

Another addition to the Silverlight suite is the Telerik Assembly Minifier, a web-based tool that decreases the size of RadControls for Silverlight assemblies and consecutively the overall Silverlight application file size. It allows developers to quickly create highly optimized custom assemblies that only contain the Telerik controls and resources needed for a specific application. Combined with the RadControls for Silverlight, the Assembly Minifier enables developers to achieve previously impossible levels of optimization and in turn deliver faster application loading experiences to users.

Q2 2010 also marks the debut of Round Trip Mapping capabilities in the Telerik OpenAccess ORM Visual Designer. Developers traditionally must decide between Schema-first and Model-first mapping when working with ORM tools, like Entity Framework (EF), a decision, which is then set for the project duration. With OpenAccess Round Trip Mapping and the Visual Designer, developers can employ either approach at any time, for example, reverse-mapping an existing schema then updating that schema by simply updating the mapped model classes. Used in conjunction with Visual Designer, all tasks can be achieved in a single, intuitive view directly in Visual Studio, making OpenAccess one of the most flexible and efficient ORMs available.

Telerik’s second major release this year also delivers a host of new upgrades for its robust WebUI Test Studio, which are designed to allow professional development and QA teams to adopt Silverlight without sacrifices to application quality. Having previously introduced Silverlight UI record and playback support, Telerik’s WebUI Test Studio now delivers full out-of-browser support for Silverlight application testing. The enhanced Silverlight test recording enables customers to run the same test in-browser and as a desktop one. Also new is ChildWindow and Pop-up support for Silverlight applications, as well as robust image verification functionality permitting verification via visual rendering rather than element properties and attributes.

Q2 2010 marks the commercial release of Telerik’s JustMock developer productivity tool. Introduced earlier in 2010, JustMock allows Visual Studio developers to swiftly and effortlessly create object mockings during unit testing, saving time and resources. By breaking dependencies in unit tests, developers can focus on testing single concerns, providing more complete unit test coverage and improving overall software testing quality. An intuitive, high-performance addition to Telerik’s integrated suite of developer tools, JustMock opens new avenues to increased productivity, backed by the company’s industry-leading customer service and support.

Other upgrades and enhancements announced include:
  • Unit Test Runner for JustCode, allowing developers to quickly and efficiently run critical tests in Visual Studio
  • 13 new controls for its XAML suites including TreeListView for both Silverlight and WPF, DataPager, DataFilter, and more
  • The official launch of the Telerik Data Services Wizard, which facilitates automatic creation of C# or Visual Basic code and project files needed to use OpenAccess entities with Data Services for .NET 3.5 SP1 Version 1 and 2 (Astoria), WCF EndPoints Service, REST Collection WCF Services, and ATOM Publishing Protocol WCF Service
  • New additions to the Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC suite, including an ASP.NET MVC Editor, offering identical HTML output across all major browsers, Window and ComboBox Extensions
  • Telerik Reporting support for interactive reports that allow end-users to drill down through reports and subreports, jump to other sections in a report, and access external URLs via hyperlinks
  • New TagCloud for ASP.NET AJAX and seamless SharePoint 2010 integration
  • An expanded WinForms suite that integrates five new controls, as well as new GridView UI and data layers for enterprise data-intensive scenarios

Pricing of the Telerik Ultimate Collection for .NET, including all RadControl suites, Extensions for ASP.NET MVC, Reporting, OpenAccess ORM, JustCode, JustMock, and WebUI Test Studio Developer Edition is $1,999 per developer seat. Each license comes with priority support, guaranteeing 24-hour response time, as well as full C# source code, redistribution rights, and free updates to the latest products for one year. For questions or additional pricing information, please visit the Telerik website at www.telerik.com or email sales@telerik.com.

The partners are also looking at ways to further integrate technologies to address other compliance areas within SharePoint.

Kurt Mueffelmann, president and CEO, HiSoftware, stated, “We have many large customers with disabled employees who need to contribute content via SharePoint sites. Including the Telerik RadEditor with Compliance Sheriff AFM for SharePoint will enable content authoring for all with a fully accessible text editor.”

Microsoft Bulgaria Ltd partner recognised at global partner event for excellence
in product and service innovation, customer service and business growth strategy

SOFIA, BULGARIA 28 June 2010 — Recognising excellence in the partner network in Central and Eastern Europe, Microsoft today announced that Telerik, a leading vendor of development, automated testing, and team productivity tools, as well as UI components and content management solutions for Microsoft .NET, was recognized as a winner of the 2010 Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards. The awards honour Microsoft Registered Partners, Microsoft Certified Partners and Microsoft Gold Certified Partners that have delivered exemplary solutions for their customers during the past year.  Telerik was selected based on its Sitefinity content management system (CMS).

Award winners were chosen from the partner network in the region and will be recognised at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2010, the company’s premier annual event for industry partners, held between 11 and 15 July in Washington D.C. The award winners were selected by Microsoft from a group of nominations based on their dedicated use of Microsoft technologies to provide solutions for their customers’ needs.

"To be selected by Microsoft for this prestigious honor clearly demonstrates Telerik's leadership role in the software market," said Vassil Terziev, Telerik CEO. "We are thrilled that Telerik has been recognized as a Microsoft Partner of the Year for our Sitefinity CMS product, as it underscores our commitment to providing outstanding innovation and value to our customers.”

Telerik’s Sitefinity CMS, based on market-proven ASP.NET development patterns, is a comprehensive development tool enabling rapid creation and deployment of richly interactive web pages. The product’s unique architecture, which incorporates Master Pages, templates, standard and user controls, themes and CSS, also allows seamless integration of legacy applications and third-party widgets to deliver unparalleled functionality.

“This year, nearly 300 of our CEE partners entered the competition for the opportunity to win a Partner of the Year Award, showcasing an impressive range of offerings they had pioneered in their markets.  We are delighted to recognise the partners whose entries demonstrated how they had gone the extra mile to offer something truly innovative and valuable to their customers,” said Ognian Kiriakov, General Manager, Microsoft Bulgaria Ltd. “Our partners make a vital contribution to the local business ecosystem, and according to a recent report from IDC, for every $1 USD Microsoft made in CEE in 2009, partner organizations made more than $10.44 USD.  At the Worldwide Partner Conference this year, we celebrate their contribution to CEE and recognise their success.”

Microsoft’s dynamic ecosystem, with over 250,000 partners in EMEA, accounts for as much as two-thirds of the IT industry in this region.  The Worldwide Partner Conference is designed to showcase best practice examples, connect partners to local executives and, critically, help them develop compelling solutions for customers using new technologies such as Windows 7, helping fuel short-term recovery and long-term growth.

Companies in the Microsoft ecosystem employ 211,000 people and IT using organizations employ another 392,000 IT professionals who work with Microsoft software or the products and services based on it. Together, these employees will account for 50% of IT-related employment in 2009 and 53% of IT-related taxes in the region.

Telerik’s Ultimate Collection for .NET Named “Best of TechEd 2010” by Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazines

Sun, 06/13/2010 - 22:00

Waltham, MA, June 14, 2010 - Telerik, the leading vendor of development tools and user interface components for Microsoft’s .NET platform, today announced that its Ultimate Collection for .NET was named as a Winner in the Best of TechEd 2010 awards program in the Components and Middleware category by Penton Media’s Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazine.

"The Telerik Ultimate Collection provides a complete set of Windows Forms, ASP.NET, and Silverlight controls. This product won because in addition to its controls, it provides support for the Open Access data access framework, as well as Web Test Studio for testing web applications," noted the judging panel.

The Best of TechEd 2010 awards recognize companies who offer innovative products for the industry. The judges reviewed 298 products and services submitted for the contest and chose 46 finalists to be interviewed at the Microsoft Tech•Ed North America 2010 IT pro conference in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 9, 2010. Winners were announced at an invite only evening reception at the Hard Rock Café on June 9th and are available on-line at http://www.windowsitpro.com and http://northamerica.msteched.com.

“Telerik is honored to be recognized as a Best of TechEd 2010 award winner by such well regarded voices of software development at one of the most important conferences for our industry,” said Svetozar Georgiev, Telerik CEO. “This award validates Telerik’s importance in the software development industry and our ability to effectively address every stage of the software development process with tools to enable greater productivity, efficiency, and improved finished product quality, while saving time and producing measureable ROI.”

Telerik’s Ultimate collection for .NET includes Telerik’s entire suite of developer tools and automated testing to help software development teams build applications faster with more powerful features out of the box. The bundle includes all Telerik user interface control suites including ASP.NET AJAX, Silverlight, MVC, WinForms, and WPF; tools for Reporting and ORM, Code Analysis, and Mocking; and WebUI Test Studio Developer Edition.

“Choosing the best product in each of 16 categories—from our list of 46 products—was both daunting and exhilarating for our judging panel,” said Jason Bovberg, Senior Editor of Windows IT Pro. “All 46 finalists represent highly distinguished products and services in their categories. Through our exhaustive interview process, it was clear that some of our winners stood a step above the pack, whereas other picks were more difficult to determine. The winners in those categories typically offered an edge in product functionality, boasted enhanced feature sets in new versions, or introduced innovative technology—giving them a slight advantage over the competition,” remarked Bovberg. Winners were chosen based on their innovation, strategic importance to the market, competitive advantage and exceptional value to customers.

In addition, two other Telerik solutions were recognized as finalists in the Best of TechEd 2010. Telerik Reporting was selected in the Business Intelligence category and Telerik OpenAccess ORM was selected in the Database Development category.

Telerik Releases RadControls for Silverlight and WPF Q2 2010 Beta

Thu, 06/10/2010 - 05:00

Telerik, a leading vendor of development tools and user interface components for the Microsoft .NET Framework, announced the Q2 2010 Beta Release of RadControls for Silverlight and RadControls for WPF. Among the highlights are: Assembly Minifier for Silverlight, which reduces the size of the RadControls assemblies; five new identical controls for both suites among which DataFilter, DataPager and BusyIndicator.

“By reducing the size of the RadControls Assemblies, the Assembly Minifier ultimately reduces the size of the XAP file of the application,” said Nikolay Atanassov, Telerik Silverlight teams Unit Manager. “The end-users will immediately feel the difference too, because the loading time of your Silverlight application will decrease significantly.”

The Telerik Assembly Minifier allows developers to choose a list of controls to be used in their Silverlight application, analyzes the dependencies between them and then produces a new set of optimized assemblies. The new assemblies contain only the selected controls and the resources used by them. Using the Assembly Minifier Tool, developers can keep the downloaded size of their application to the bare minimum. Currently the tool supports only Telerik RadControls for Silverlight and is in Beta stage.

The preview of the upcoming Q2 release also features 5 new additions to the RadControls for Silverlight and RadControls for WPF suites: RadDataFilter, RadDataPager, RadBusyIndicator, RadDateTimePicker and an improved RadTreeListView.
