Uoma Delivers Simplest Enterprise CMS Experience by Combining Telerik’s Sitefinity and Azure Cloud

Wed, 01/25/2012 - 19:05

This project was published as a best practice success story on the Microsoft website

WALTHAM, MA, January 25, 2012Uoma, headquartered in Helsinki and winner of a Deloitte Technology Fast 50 award for being the fourth fastest growing company in 2010 in Finland, has launched a new website using Telerik Sitefinity deployed in the cloud on Microsoft’s Windows Azure.

With the growth of their online business, Uoma wanted to increase agility in enterprise CMS deployment. Their goals included achieving faster turn-around for marketing campaigns and for web content publishing as well as allowing IT to focus on their own strategic projects. To meet the requirements for an easily scalable solution, Uoma chose the Windows Azure platform. Sitefinity was the natural choice for the website at it offered all the core features out of the box. "We have worked with other content management systems before, but none of them comes close to the flexibility and extensibility that Telerik Sitefinity offers." says Mikko Heilimo, R&D Director at Uoma.

Among the main benefits provided by the new website were:

  • Scalable cloud solution;
  • Approximately 60% more visitor capacity at the same cost level;
  • Service Level Agreement increased from 98% to 99.5%, with no additional cost;
  • Reduced overall development time (cut by 40% to 1.5 weeks).

“As organizations evolve and respond to growing online presence needs, it is increasingly difficult and expensive to scale IT infrastructure,” said Ivan Osmak, Product Manager of Sitefinity at Telerik. “With Sitefinity and Windows Azure, companies achieve greater scalability without additional cost – enabling them to focus on their core business.”

Sitefinity 4.4 Release Redefines Developer Productivity and Introduces More Enterprise Features

Tue, 12/20/2011 - 18:33

New Module Builder offers faster customizations and accelerates website development

WALTHAM, MA, Dec 20, 2011Telerik, an end-to-end provider of software application lifecycle and content management solutions, today revealed the latest release for Sitefinity, its award-winning Content Management System (CMS). In Sitefinity 4.4, customers will find a fully integrated Module Builder, enabling website administrators to rapidly create new content-types using a web-based UI. Another highlight of the release is the site synchronization feature, which facilitates synchronization of data across multiple sites and environments. Sitefinity 4.4 accelerates the website development and content creation processes, boosting overall productivity and minimizing costs.

Central to the Sitefinity 4.4 release is the Module Builder, which empowers website administrators to create custom content types and associated fields with minimal time and effort. Depending on the use case, site administrators can define required fields and select field validations to create a custom module tailored for their specific scenario. Upon installation of the custom module, Sitefinity will auto-generate any necessary administration interfaces, API, permissions, workflows, and more, allowing users to quickly get sites up and running, while still allowing .NET developers to customize the project through Visual Studio or through the integrated back-end configurator.

Also debuting in this release is a new Code Reference tool that puts the developer’s documentation in context with the custom modules. Sitefinity generates a set of ready-to-use code snippets based on the created custom types and fields, thus improving efficiency by eliminating the need to reference lengthy manuals.

"Customization is among the key features when choosing a CMS, especially for our clients who are always striving to maximize productivity. The focus of Sitefinity has always been on making everyone using the system more productive as well as making Sitefinity easier and more pleasant to work with," said Martin Kirov, executive vice president of Sitefinity, Telerik. "The new Module Builder is the culmination of more than two years of hard work rebuilding Sitefinity from the ground up to be the most extensible .NET web platform. It brings customization and extensibility to a whole new level and sets the foundation for many new Sitefinity features and modules which we and our clients and partners can now build much faster."

Also new with this release is site synchronization, which advances Telerik’s goal of streamlining the management of web assets in multi-tier environments. Site Sync makes Sitefinity an ideal solution for enterprises with mature internal development processes, high website traffic volumes, multiple sites and servers. The new site synchronization technology, based on the CMIS standard, ensures content synchronization of content blocks, news, blogs, documents, videos, pages, templates as well as taxonomies among multiple websites and environments, including live, test, and staging servers. Administrators can be assured that content or data updates will be reflected uniformly across all sites and servers, helping them to easily deliver the most up-to-date information.

A host of other enhancements and refinements are making their debut, including improvements to Sitefinity’s rapidly maturing ecommerce module. As part of this latest release, storeowners have the flexibility to define product variations for size, style, color, and other variables, giving customers more freedom of choice and simplifying the purchasing process.

For a complete list of new features and additional details about Sitefinity 4.4, please visit www.sitefinity.com or follow @sitefinity on Twitter. For more information about Telerik, please visit www.telerik.com or follow @telerik on Twitter.

Wed, 11/30/2011 - 17:07

New framework by Telerik offers everything developers need for development of HTML5, JavaScript sites and apps

WALTHAM, MA, - November 30, 2011 - Kendo UI, a new product from leading developer tools and solutions provider Telerik, today announced the launch of the Kendo UI framework. Targeted at professional software developers, Kendo UI delivers everything needed for front-end development with JavaScript and HTML5.

"Building applications and sites today with HTML5 and JavaScript is an exercise in self-assembling an array of libraries and toolsets to compose a platform that has all of the necessary components for development," said Todd Anglin, EVP, Kendo UI. "This approach is acceptable for hobby projects, but it is fraught with support and licensing risks, it is difficult to maintain and upgrade, it is difficult to learn, and it wastes valuable development time. Kendo UI solves this problem by providing a unified framework with all of the necessary components for building HTML5 and JavaScript apps and sites."

Kendo UI launches with three distinct packages:

  • Kendo UI Web - More than a dozen rich HTML5 JavaScript UI widgets, including a Grid, plus essential framework components like a powerful Data Source, touch-enabled drag-and-drop, and one of the fastest JavaScript templating engines available.
  • Kendo UI DataViz - A dedicated suite of HTML5-powered data visualization widgets, including animated charts.
  • Kendo UI Mobile CTP - An early preview of Kendo UI widgets built specifically for solving the problems of building mobile apps with HTML5.

Building on top of the popular jQuery JavaScript library, Kendo UI leverages the latest in CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript web standards, while still delivering broad support for all major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and mobile browsers on iOS and Android.

Telerik fills an essential need in the JavaScript and HTML5 communities with Kendo UI by drawing on its long tradition of building professional software development tools to deliver a unified framework backed by industry leading support.

"Developers today, faced with an increasingly fragmented computing landscape, are turning to HTML5 and JavaScript to build software that can run anywhere and reach the largest possible audience," said Svetozar Georgiev, CEO, Telerik. "Kendo UI simplifies the adoption of this rapidly evolving platform, helping developers quickly embrace the future with less risk. It also serves as an opportunity for Telerik to move beyond its .NET roots and apply our knowledge and expertise to providing tools for the broader world of HTML5 and JavaScript developers."

At launch, Kendo UI is available under both a commercial and Open Source (GPLv3) license, making the new tools accessible to a diverse range of projects. Commercial licenses during the initial release will cost $399 and will include Kendo UI Web, Kendo UI DataViz, access to professional support, and all major and minor updates for one year. Free commercial trial licenses are also available.

Waltham, MA – October 21, 2011 – Telerik, an end-to-end provider of tools for software development and content management solutions, today announced the 25 top apps from the Windows Phone Unleashed Events that will participate in the contest for Telerik’s Grand Prize - $5000. Another $300 prize will be awarded to the application selected with the community’s vote.

Windows Phone 7 Unleashed Events, a series of hands on programming events, were organized by Microsoft and the local .NET User Groups throughout the US from May to July 2011. Telerik is sponsoring the events’ Grand Prize and has also provided free licenses of RadControls for Windows Phone for all participants.

“We are very happy that we have been given the opportunity to sponsor the Unleashed Events and to show our commitment to support the Windows Phone 7 development ecosystem,” said Valentin Stoychev, Product Manager at the Telerik Windows Phone team.

The Grand Prize winner will be randomly selected and the app with the most votes in Twitter will win the community vote. More details about the competition are available here.
